Historical & Traditional Tales On Kainchi Dham

The Origin of Kainchi Dham goes way back, even a few years before Independence. In the year 1942 when Maharaj Neem Karoli Baba proposed for building an Ashram dedicated to Sombari Maharaj and the Sadhu Premi Baba, who used to do Ritual Practices here at the same spot. Once they proposed this idea, it remained only an idea for another few decades. 

As we all know that every dream has its way of coming true, and Maharaj Neem Karoli Baba’s dream was becoming a reality. This was the year 1963 when the forest areas were getting shaped and the process of building an Ashram was starting, that is the Kainchi Dham we know today. 

Neem Karoli baba passionately followed Lord Hanuman and was a true devotee. Such were his beliefs as well when it came to his teachings that were spreading all over the world.

While the Kainchi Dham and the Ashram were being constructed, adjacent to it was the process of building a Hanuman Temple. Slowly with time the teachings of Neem Karoli Baba and the Mystical energy of Kainchi Dham started attracting numerous tourists.

At Kainchi Dham, the never-ending cycles of Kirtans, Bhandara, and Bhajans started as there were devotees from everywhere. According to the Pran-Pratishtha idols of Lord Hanuman, along with the Birthday and Foundation Day of the Ashram on the 15th of June. On this day every year, a fair is organized at the Kainchi Dham and the entire place is surrounded by devotees, where some are helping around and all of them are getting the Prasad.

Along with setting themselves free within the bell chimes and the religious chants. 

The year 1973 when the Maharaj Neem Karoli Baba left his physical body and passed on, his ashes were kept in the Kainchi Dham. 

This was the time when the construction work for the Ashram and the Temple started and volunteers from all over the globe started coming to help build the place. 

In The year 1976 when the time came for the sthapna of Maharaj Ji’s murti and the yajnas and aartis began. On 15th June, a date was decided by the Neem Karoli Baba. On this day massive Bhandaras are organized every year. By the time, the Yajnas were over, one could feel the mystical and divine energy around the region. As the Kainchi Dham and the temple were enclosed within spiritual flags and bells, spreading positivity everywhere.

In due time there were many temples created in the whole country, dedicated to the Neem Karoli Baba. At present, there are over 100 Temples dedicated to Neem Karoli Baba and his teachings.

How To Reach Kainchi Dham?

The Neem Karoli Baba’s Ashram and Temple is located in the Nainital District, making this region well connected to the road. 

Your mode of transportation will depend on where you are coming from if it is a nearby or a faraway state.

Via Airways

If you are coming from a faraway place, then you can easily book a flight ticket for New Delhi Airport. Once you reach Delhi, you can book another flight taking you to the Pantnagar Airport. Which is just 76kms from your destination, one can easily hire a cab or shared taxi towards the Kainchi Dham

Via Railways

There is also an option of booking a train ticket for the Kathgodam Railway Station, which is just 45kms from your destination. 

If you are coming from a faraway state, you can book two tickets, first one will take you to the New Delhi Railway station and the second one will take you to the Kathgodam station from Delhi.

Via Roadways

The roads are well connected to your destination, one can easily book a bus ticket taking you to Kainchi Dham. Although, you might have to change busses at the Kathgodam or the Haldwani Bus stand. If you are coming via your vehicle, you can easily reach Haldwani and from there your destination is just 50kms towards Almora.
